• Front Scope Mount Screws

Two issues can be cause by front scope mount screws that are to long.

    1. If the front screw is to long it will bottom out on the threads of the barrel shank. When this happens, the screw will feel as if it's properly torqued down to secure the base, but in reality the base will still be loose.
    2. If the rear screw is to long it will either bottom out on the bolt head (if the bolt is closed when installed) or prevent you from being able to close the bolt (bolt open when installed). If the bolt is closed during installation and the screw bottoms out on the bolt head, it will feel as if the screw is properly torqued down to secure the base, but in reality the base will still be loose.

For these reasons we highly recommend you check your front base screw lengths individually to ensure they will properly secure the base without contacting the barrel threads or bolt head. Simply mount the base with one screw and torque it down and check for any movement. Repeat process with other screw location.

If you find a screw is to long it will need to be shortened using a file and/or grinder. Only take a little off at a time and recheck the fit, repeating as necessary. Remember, you can't add material back if you take to much off.
