• PSharon97's Custom 7mm Remington Magnum

The rifle started its life out as a bland 30-06. For a hunting rifle, accuracy was everything expected out of a savage producing about .5 MOA at 100 meters. However, I wanted a rifle that was much more precise for longer range target shooting. I chose the classic 7mm Remington Magnum for the cartridge. I also wanted a rifle that had less felt recoil than a 30-06.

Fred Moreo at Sharp Shooter Supply deserves all the credit for the build itself. He built the stock, chambered the barrel, and did the action work. His work is outstanding and worth every penny. This is easily one of the most precise builds I've ever done.

I also am a fan of the 7mm Rem Mag. I have one of the Savage 112 BVSS stainless rifles in that caliber so I appreciate the setup. The 7 mag is about as much as I can hold onto anymore but it is plenty for anything you want to do inside 1000 yards.

Does this really have less felt recoil than a comparable 30-06? I've always found that the 06 seems to lick a bit less in comparable guns.

Sweet rig! How does she shoot?

I am sure part of my "less felt recoil" is the weight of the rifle and scope being about 13 pounds. I also load for 162 grain bullets with R22 so it doesnt bark like some loads might. I was getting 5/8" groups when I was shooting it a lot. The "standard" 30-06 loads are 180 grain and maybe a little more stout than what I should in my magnum. I have a 6.5 x 47 Lapua that I have been messing with lately.
It has very low recoil but the barrel is also a 30" bull barrel! I have not put the rifle on a scale but it is very heavy, maybe in the 20+ pound range.

If anyone was wondering, those are weaver skeleton scope rings. They work great and are only about 20 bucks.

After shooting this rifle for a bit, I have found the recoil to be around the 243. However, one should never shoot this rifle without a good muzzle break.

I took the rifle out to a good 600 yard range in Swainsborow, GA. There I got a 3/4" group at that range.

Wow. My Savage 111 Long Range Hunter 7mm Rem Mag arrives Christmas Eve. It weighs 8.6 lbs and has an adjustable muzzle break. It's my first 7 Mag. :) Hope it's a tack driver like yours!
