The Bushnell Elite series of optics have had an excellent reputation over the years for offering great performance and quality at a reasonable price point. In fact, my oldest optic just happens to be a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40mm that I purchased in 2001 and it’s still just as clear and reliable today as it was on the day I bought it. I have also owned a few Elite 4200 series rifle scopes over the years, and my CZ 452 American in .17 HMR currently wears an Elite 6500 2.5-16x42mm. In short, the Bushnell Elite line is one I have a lot of experience with so I was excited to have this opportunity to review Bushnell’s ...

The NightForce brand of optics has been a well-regarded premium brand for quite some time now with their Competition and NSX lines. In recent years they have added new lines that were designed to be use specific such as the ATAR (tactical) and Benchrest lines.

In 2015 NightForce added another new line specifically aimed towards long-range hunters called the SHV (shooting, hunting, varmint). Their goal for this line of rifle scopes was to provide a more cost-friendly

If you’ve been a gun nut for any length of time you’ve surely learned that in this game sometimes you just have to man up and spend some money to get the quality that you really want. Whether it’s for a precision rifle, match grade barrel, competition ready pistol or in this case a top of the line scope, the old adage of “you get what you pay for” still applies in certain instances. That’s just what I did earlier this summer when I finally broke down and purchased the scope we are looking at today, a Vortex Viper PST ...

The Burris FullField E1 looks right at home on the Savage 93R17.

Let's face it, not all of us can afford the top of the line scopes whose prices often exceed $2,000 these days. Heck, most of us can't afford or simply don't want to spend over $1,000 on a scope. Fortunately if you fall into that latter group of shooters you're in luck because the quality and wide selection of scopes priced in the $500 to $1,000 range has never been better.

    First I should probably

As I was sitting here organizing my notes in preparation of writing this review I couldn't help but chuckle at the question that popped into my head, "How did our predecessors ever get along without illuminated reticles?" One can't ignore the fact that most every optic manufacturer the world over offers at least one line of scopes with an illuminated reticle. Even leupold jumped into the fray a few years ago ...

Visually estimating the range to your target is probably one of the most difficult elements of long-range marksmanship to master. You can have the best rifle available, finely tuned hand-loaded ammunition, perfect trigger control and you can memorize the ballistic and atmospheric tables for your favorite hand-load, but you will never be a true marksman if you don’t know the approximate range to your target. Laser rangefinders like the Leupold RX-800i/TBR with DNA ...

The latest fad in the optics world these past few years has been the move to utilizing a higher magnification zoom lens in rifle scopes. For decades the industry standard was either a 3x (3-9x, 4-12x, etc.) or 4x (2.5-10x, 4-16x, etc.) zoom lens, but in recent years we have seen an ever increasing number of scope lines featuring 5x, 6x, 6.5x and even 8x zoom lenses. Swarovski ...

Unless you've been hiding under a rock the past six to eight years, you're probably aware that a new breed of rifle scopes has emerged that features a 6-power zoom lens. While for decades the standard zoom lenses used in rifle scopes has been either a 3-power or 4-power, this new breed allows manufacturers to offer variable power scopes with a much broader range ...

When I received this scope from Redfield I was excited as I have not done a scope review in quite a while so it's a nice change of pace. Also, I had been wanting to check out the quality of the new Redfield optics since they are now a division of Leupold. This scope gave me that opportunity.
