If you’ve been a gun nut for any length of time you’ve surely learned that in this game sometimes you just have to man up and spend some money to get the quality that you really want. Whether it’s for a precision rifle, match grade barrel, competition ready pistol or in this case a top of the line scope, the old adage of “you get what you pay for” still applies in certain instances. That’s just what I did earlier this summer when I finally broke down and purchased the scope we are looking at today, a Vortex Viper PST ...

Savage Arms has discovered that the bolt on some B.MAG rifles may inadvertently catch the safety button and slide it forward into the "fire" position. This condition is primarily present if downward pressure is applied to the bolt too early while pushing it forward. While Savage has received no reports of accidents due to this condition, we have decided to offer free retrofits of all B.MAG rifle bolts out of an abundance of caution and in our ongoing commitment to quality and safety. ...

Scout rifles were first defined and promoted by Jeff Cooper back in the early 1980’s as a new class of general-purpose rifles. Such rifles are based around a bolt-action rifle chambered in .308 Winchester (7.62x51mm), are less than a meter in length, weigh less than three kilograms (6.6-lbs), come with iron sights, are fitted with a practical sling (such as Ching slings) for shooting and ...

The Burris FullField E1 looks right at home on the Savage 93R17.

Let's face it, not all of us can afford the top of the line scopes whose prices often exceed $2,000 these days. Heck, most of us can't afford or simply don't want to spend over $1,000 on a scope. Fortunately if you fall into that latter group of shooters you're in luck because the quality and wide selection of scopes priced in the $500 to $1,000 range has never been better.

    First I should probably

As I was sitting here organizing my notes in preparation of writing this review I couldn't help but chuckle at the question that popped into my head, "How did our predecessors ever get along without illuminated reticles?" One can't ignore the fact that most every optic manufacturer the world over offers at least one line of scopes with an illuminated reticle. Even leupold jumped into the fray a few years ago ...

For those who ready my first review of Savage’s new A17 semi-automatic .17 HMR rimfire rifle, you already know that it had some issues and accordingly my review of the rifle was less than favorable. Upon returning that first sample to Savage I expressed that I would be more than willing to review another one once they ...

Several aftermarket companies tried to come up with a workable solution for existing models, and Remington attempted to offer a model using their ...

Over the years Savage Arms has used four different twist rates on their firearms chambered for the .223 Remington cartridge. This is primarily due to the increase in bullet weights being used by the U.S. Military and NATO ammunition, and as the bullet weights went up the twist rate had to increase accordingly to ensure bullet stabilization. Savage has used 1-7", 1-9", 1-12" and 1-14" twist rates for rifles chambered in .223.
