Today I was blessed to find a like new Striker in 22-250 wearing a Burris 5x AO scope. Seller had bought it new and never shot it much.

He was asking $250 - but accepted $200 :)

I'd like to convert this one to 204 Ruger and take it out prairie dogging.

I believe what I'd need to do this would be to order a new bolt head, magazine box and follower from the Savage parts dept.
I'd also need to find a take off small shank rifle barrel and have it cut down.

Anything else? I have an action wrench but would have to buy a guage and another savage nut wrench.

Reason I want to change out is I've got 500+ rounds of 204 handloads + dies but nothing on hand for 22-250.

Also, is there a way to take a bit of sponginess out of this trigger?

Thanks

Mike

Or I can send you my address and you can sell it to me for $250. I will put the .22-250 to good use.

Do you know which generation you have? There is a guy that makes hinge pins that will take the sponginess out of the trigger in the transfer bar, but the one that responds the best would be the 2nd generation. I have one in my 2nd generation and it made it more crisp.

If interested I will look up his info, but you have to know which generation you have.

I don't know which one it is - but I went at the trigger last night with an allen wrench and it is now a very crisp trigger with a let off of about 2.75 lbs.
Does'nt slam fire nor will it fire when the safety is engaged and trigger pulled firmly.

There doesn't seem to be any way to deal with overtravel but for an extreme low budget gun I can live with it.

Does anyone know where I can buy a ready made finished barrel in 204 Ruger for this gun?

BTW, mine looks like this one:

Any barrel maker that does savage barrels can make one for you. You can also get a .204 barrel from a stock savage rifle and cut it down to the length you are looking for.

2nd thought:
It may well be impossible to find a 223 mag box to fit this thing. I may try to trade it for a .223 version. I'd save cost of the bolt head and mag box and could just rebarrel.

I have a 243 striker and switch it to 223 often. The 243/22-250 mag box will feed the first round. So you can have one in the mag and one in the chamber. For P-dogs I would just get a single shot follower and not worry about it.

Not a bad idea as I load my other magazine fed varmint rifles one at a time, off the top of the follower with the ejector removed.

Say I want .204, is there a source for 20 cal barrels that are pre-contoured for this gun so I don't have to pay extra to the 'smith?

Thanks

I shot some WW white box 45 grainers through it today. It took me a few groups to get the hang of it but then was able to cloverleaf 3 - 4 shots in out of each group @ 100 yds. The little bbl gets HOT in a hurry in this 22-250 chambering.

I like the gun but 22-250 is too much kaboom for me so will proceed with the 204 conversion. I called the factory - they have 223 mag box, follower and extractor in stock. Those with the new bolt head will cost me about $100 delivered.

I still need to find a SS pull off sporter weight bbl to buy.

nomo4me Right now there is a 26" 204 barrel for sale for 125.00 in the savage parts adds.

Thanks for the info. I've got a line presently on a blue one shipped to me at $60 though I'm hoping a stainless will emerge for not too much more.

For $125 I think I'd step up to a shilen.
