With a 1:8 what bullets should have good results at shorter 100 and 200 yard ranges? From everything I read the 105gr A-max, 105gr VLD and the 107 SMK will do much better the further you go but I shouldn't expect them to perform all that well at closer ranges. I have 80gr and 95gr Nosler Ballistic tips, and some mid 80gr to mid 90gr Hornady V-max. I have the heavy stuff here as well but if it's not going to work at 100yds I won't bother.

I shoot pretty small groups with 107 SMKs and a little bit of RL17. But the smaller bullets will probably shoot better at short ranges plus the smaller bullets are cheaper. ;)

My CBI 1-8" twist has been shooting 58gr V-Max over Varget with good promise. The First group after barrel break in was a 5-shot at 100yds and measure .331".

Best 5 shot group at 100 yards with 50 grain Bergers stuffed .010 into the lands (short throat chamber) got me a .144. ( :o) Very consistant. And most 5 shot groups can be covered with a dime. (If I do my part) ;D

I broke in my 6 br barrel in at 100 yards with 75gr vmax's and was shooting jagged hole 5 shot groups with out any load development. At some point I may need to do some testing with those bullets.

But, I'd probably go with something like the Berger 80 gr FB. As that should be a really good bullet for point blank shooting. Depends what your barrel likes.

I dont know, look at the picture and you tell me if the heavy bullets don't shoot well at 100 yards.
