looking at getting a brake for my stevens 200 in .243.

question 1,
what is the most common thread for a brake of this cal ?

question 2,
what is my barrel diameter ? i have a standard stevens 200 in .243 (but not here with me to measure).

question 3,
anyone here done this before ?

thanks

Send Ross Schuler an email. I bought 3 brakes from him and had him install them (I sent barrel and marked top/center) for $80 each with return shipping included. He can tell you which thread size to get. Also, he tapers the brake to the muzzle diameter for no charge. His email is rem40xb1@msn.com .

This brake is 1" diameter with no taper.

I have seen Ross's stuff as well, good stuff.

The thread would depend more on Diameter at muzzle, I would say 5/8-24 is the most common but your barrel is probably too small for a 5/8. 1/2-28 is mil-spec on ARs so there is a lot of options available for that as well just open them up to the right caliber. I like going with these 2 thread sizes for most common stuff available but there is also many others available.

Do you see much difference in the felt recoil and muzzle jump with the 243 w/break? I know its going to be louder.

I hear of a lot of people using a brake on a 243 so they can spot their hits, not because the recoil is uncomfortable.
