ANyone tried the new 53gr v-max .223 ammo

Yesterday I came across an advertisement in a hunting magazine that caught my eye. It was an extreme ammo made to put the .223 on par with the 22-250 @ long range. The ballistic table showed muzzle velocity to be 500 fps less than the 22-250 with 50gr v-max and this 53gr .223 was only 90fps less than the 22-250 load @ 500 yds. Not sure if we can get the bullets yet but it might be fun to load some up.

Bullets became available about 2 weeks ago. I've got 500 in the garage waiting on a chance to build up a load. They are the highest BC varmint bullet made by a comfortable margin and are light enough that they can really be slung out there.

The advertised speed on the .223 load was 3500 fps which is pretty hot. I get 3250 out of my 55gr loads but an extra 250 fps might put me over the edge.

I have these 53 grain bullets and tested them with great results. One thing to remember is this bullet shot in a .223 needs a 10 twist or faster. Shot in the 22-250 needs a 12 twist or faster. Loaded with 8208XBR or Varget they were stable in the snow or 75 temps so far. The 223 reloads gave me 1" @ 200 yards. It is a long Bullet for the weight similar to the Barnes 50 Grenades, they also need a faster twist to stabilize. A bullet's weight and length are the determining factors to determine the twist rate needed. The 290 BC is really the best .224 cal bullet under 68 grains period. I also shoot a 204 Ruger with the Sierra 39's in it, compared to this bullets flies just as well in the 22-250 or the .223.

I shot some of these in my new Savage 10FLCP and shot them through the Chrony and I got almost the advertised velocity plus the spread between 3 shots was an amazing 8 fps. I think they were all around 3409 fps. Plus they shot under 1" on a brand new rifle.
