For just over $300, would this be a smart purchase for the short range hunts in South Central TX?

Details, I got a chance to pick up a model 11XP3 in .243W with a sporter barrel. I am not all that familiar with the .243 chambering, but research tells me it is a quite versital caliber. From what I can tell, this particular rifle was a limited edition package deal with Camo pattern...looks really nice.

Thoughts? Advice?

Thank you in advance

As far as lethality on deer, The last deer my father got dressed 225, One shot from his model 88 Winchester in .243 took out a hugh chunk of the deers spine. Dad was shooting uphill at a steep angle and as a result he shot high, offhand. Dad was a phenominal shot with rifle or handgun. He had to put his back against a tree to hold him while he shot. On those relatively small Texas deer that .243 will be a bang plop deal. Dads deer was shot in NH. woodlands.

I reload sierra 85grain gamekings for a friend of mine's model 11 in .243. His wife and his daughter shoot deer with it and neither one of them have lost a deer yet.

btw they hunt in Central Texas, Lampasas county.

I use a model 11 package rifle in .243, it will make clover leaves at 100yd anytime i do my part. (open rest, 87gr vmax) I have to replace the t-posts at the 200yd line pretty regular because i shoot them apart with it, and it drt's coyotes out to 450yds very well. Yep it will do what you want with no problems. blue
