Hoping to see my new Criterion soon. For those who are shooting them, what kind of break in procedure are you using?

I installed/headspaced mine and headed for the range. I don't fool with breaking in a barrel and my Criterion is shooting great with almost no copper fouling.

I used the Krieger break-in procedure...IIRC that's what Jim recommended to me.

BoilerUP- thanks for the link. I know there are ppl who don't break in their barrels, I've never seen the harm. If it helps-great. If not- what are you out?

Wear on barrel, (Each round fired breaking in a barrel is one less bullet that barrel will have in its life, why not spend it shooting in the intended purpose of the rifle.) patches, bore cleaner, brushes, oil, and time spent shooting. (Shooting in the same conditions to see if the gun really shoots, and it is not shooters error.)

Obviously there are many opinions about break-in and frankly I don't know whether it is a benefit or not but here is what I have always done and it works for me. Then again, I have never had a new gun that I did not break-in so I cannot speak to the other side of things. I shoot 10 rounds with a good cleaning in between, then shoot three sets of 2 with a cleaning in between and I'm good to go. I just shot 10 rounds out of a new Criterion in 6mmBR I got from Jim using the above process. After five I had it dialed-in pretty well at 100 yards. The next five are in the following pic.

How many rounds you guys going through in between cleaning? Just curious, I just got my new 7mm-08 barrel and shot about 12 rounds through it.

As a general rule I don't like to go beyond about 50 rounds without cleaning but on a pd trip to wy last month I went over 100 a cple of times- accuracy didn't seem to suffer, just hate to see her dirty.

I have gone about 200 several times, accuracy still there. My Kreiger's will do this, my factory Savage's will not.

Thanks guys, thats good to know . I figure the barrel will let you know, but knowing some of you going 200 rounds and still getting accuracy is great. With only 12 rounds down the tube this thing is printing some great groups with 162 amaxs and H4350.

Just shoot it.

I clean it once, just to get rid of any thing that might have fallen in the barrel (metal burrs and stuff).

Then just shoot it.
