I don't think it would be the same as either. I know some people make a specific mount for the edge/axis

Heres one

The Axis/Edge is neither a long action or a short, it is it own thing on it own. It is inbetween the two Savage/Stevens lengths.

I was under the impression the Edge .308 I just bought is short action...so if it is what does that mean for scope mounts? Mine came with a 2 piece mount that barely fits my Leupy 3/9x40

It is not a short or a long, it is in-between the two. If you use a two piece base then if your scope fits your in good shape, if you need to shorten it up, then you need to buy a 1 piece base. There is only one company that makes a 1 piece base for the Axis/Edge and that is EGW. With their base you can change your ring distance to what ever you need.

yes, i have the savage edge in 308 and it is considered a "short action". i just ordered a one piece mount for it from EGW to get the extra eye relief also.

I have seen it in reviews noted as such whereas the smaller calibers where long action.

The Edge/Axis all have the same receiver, whether a short action caliber or long. The only difference is the trigger guard assembly. By using a modular component, it can accomodate different magazine lengths and still use the same stock.
