changing bolthandle....can't get screw back in

Changing to big bolthead handle and can't get the screw started back in. I'm sure this is something simple that I've overlooked. Help is needed.

with the rear threaded bolt out, put the "button" on the side of the bolt in the down in the bottom of the V notch, then replace handle and install threaded bolt a few threads. Recock "button" by pushing down on the button on the edge of a table or workbench and finish tightening the bolt.
