Anyone here have a pic of their gun with a thumbhole stock?

Specifically I'm looking for more of a 'varmint' style, not a skinny sporter fore-end.

Stocky's Long Range Varmint (LRV), Boyd's Ross Varmint Thumbhole, Stockade Coyote Stalker, SSS Thumbhole Bench Rest, WCR Undertaker or similar is what I'm thinking of...

Thanks,

Monte

I have 2 different lrvs I can get pics of. Both very nice stocks.

Dealing with stockys has me thinkin I wont buy from them again. Customer service is crap, on two seperate orders.

Monte,
Heres some pics of a friend of mines gun(ranjan1 on here). It has a Stocky's LRV thumbhole mounted on a LRPV target action/barrel. I think the fit and finish was very good for the cost. All it needed was a set of pillars bedded in and it was ready to go. Oh, and the barrel channel relieved for the 1" barrel contour.

Very nice. He needs to pull that crappy scope off there though, he can send it to me, I'll dispose of it properly. ;D

pdog,

How's the cheekweld on those? With the cheekrest area low enough to allow the bolt to be removed, it seems like you'd end up looking at the back of the scope base, not thru the scope.

toyoda,

Mo pics, mo betta ;)

its acually not as low as you'd think. The cheekpiece actually rises back up toward the rear and gives you a decent cheek weld height. If anything it may be a tad higher than something like the LRPV stock.

It is a very comfortable stock. The only issue I have noticed from my own experience is that a thumbhole stock is a bit of a pain to work the safety while out in the field, like if you need a quick shot or something.

I just finished my LH Ross Sporter stock for my Savage 12.I wanted the Ross Varmint, but I can't find one with a LH action.
So I just modified the Sporter, and it works great.I ordered it from Stocky's,and it was an unfinished stock-as most of the LH stocks are.
I finished it with 8 coats of Tung oil, buffing each coat with Steel Wool.I didn't want a high gloss finish,so after the last coat,I hit it with steel wool and then waxed it for a semi gloss finish.

I'd like to bump this thread. I am trying to decide on a stock but would really like to see some more pictures of the Stockys LRV before I order one. Anyone else care to post any pictures?

Lots of nice guns out there folks, thanks for all the pics!

We got the wifey one of the green/brown laminate Boyds thumbholes; did my first bedding job on it. Next project is going to be inletting for a fore-end rail (yikes!).

After that, I need to shorten it up or 'midgetize it' as I call it ;) Unfortunately shortening that thing 2" is going to get into the curve of the cheekpiece and some re-shaping may be in order. I'm debating about whether to farm that out to a local gunsmith who does do some decent wood work - just he can't seem to bed a Savage right to save his life.

Also... anyone ever hack into one of these things and add an adjustable cheekpiece? After I got the thing all set up and bedded and shooting little knots, then the wife decides that maybe it didn't have enough height in the cheek rest area (one of the main reasons I resisted a thumbhole for as long as I did...).

Thanks,

Monte

This is the Savage model 12 BJTV in .223. It came from the factory with this thumbhole stock. (I believe it is a Boyd' Ross thumbhole stock). This stock just seems to work so well with the accu trigger........................Don in SC

pdog,

Will you please send a link for the Stocky's page where you got that stock. For some reason all I'm seeing is Stocky&#39 on your post and I cannot find that on Stocky's web sight. The guys at Stocky's are telling me that the LRV will not fit the Model 12 with three anchor bolts.
