I just got this Savage Model 164 Sporter in 22LR. Made in West Germany. Can anyone tell me about what year this gun was made? Serial # 779623A

Yes, you have a Savage-Anschutz..more appropriately an Anschutz, since Savage imported the Anschutz rifles directly with Anschutz stamping the Savage name on them.
I have had 2 of them in .22 mag over the years, now one is with my son, the other with my grandson. I now have .22 mags in NEF and a new Savage 93F...I am enjoying my Savage more trhan the others. ;) :D
Here's what one looks like, the other has blonde wood with a mahogany foretip on the stock.
