My Dad gave my son a 24V.The problem is the 30/30 firing pin is just hitting the primer and making a little pinhead dent.So the shells will not fire. The 20ga fires everytime. My Dad said the gun has had maybe a box of shells fire in the 30/30 barrel.
I tryed a new firing pin.Still no go.
Anyone know how to get a little bigger hit out the rebond hammer set up?

You may have a weak hammer spring and/or thicker than normal primers. Also check for excessive headspace. Find a 30-30 headspace gauge. Since 30-30 headspaces on the rim, any 30-30 gauge should do. If no headspace gauge is available, place one thickness of black electricians tape on the head of a factory loaded 30-30 shell and trim it to the same size as the face of the shell head, and close it in the action. Keep adding one thickness of tape and try to close it until it won't close easily. If you've have to add more than 2-3 pieces of tape, you likely have excessive headspace.
That's a bummer because 30-30 headspaces on the rim head.

Try to do all this with one hand blindfolded.. well maybe not blindfolded... Open the action, pull the trigger and push the hammer forward to push the firing pin out. How much is it sticking out and dose it look normal or chipped?

I am thinking it maybe the hammer spring.I have tried some of my reload that fire in a couple of my old marlins and savage 340s.I have tried Federal and winchester factory ammo. The win. will go off but not much of a dent in the primer. The federals and handloads must have a harder primer. The firing pin is a new one and is the same length as the one I took out.

Might be a mainspring but I'd have the headspacing checked as well.

can you get feeler gauges between the frame and barrel?

Barrel to frame is tight . No getting a feeler gauge in between.
I got a box of winchester 30/30.Was told they have a softer primer.
It shoots winchester shells. So if I reload with winchester primers they should work.
Was also told that federal shells use CCI primers and that is what I have used for years to reload.Just have to reload a round just for this picky gun.But if that is what it takes to make it go bang then so be it
