I shot my model 10 Predator today and was a little let down. It didn't group quit as well as I thought it would. I will try some other ammo and see what happens. I used PMC 55gr FMJ and some Remington 55gr FMJ. Next on tap is some Ultra-Max 55gr SP. Any thoughs? groups averaged about 1.5 MOA which is basically what my non heavy hunging rifles do. Also is the Predator considered a short action?

It is a model 10 so it is short action. be patient. Some Barrels take a little while to wear in I guess. My 308 shot better after the first 100 rounds or so. You might just have a picky barrel and not found the ammo it likes yet.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully I can get it dialed in. What are some of the best factory loads for Predators? Federal Match? I was hoping this rifle could be a little flexible with ammo and shoot decent with modest priced ammo not Russian junk but standard ammo. That is one of the reasons I chose it over the Rem 700 tactical. Remington owners report that 700 are a little more finicky with ammo. Years ago I had a ladies and youth model 110 .243 for my then girlfriend and it was so accurate it was crazy so I felt very comfortable buying another Savage but left the range today feeling a little concern. Matter of fact that Lady and Youth model .243 was the rifle I killed my biggest whitetail with. I had to use it as a back up rifle after falling down a small cliff with my M-77 Ruger 30-06 damaging that scope. Nice big 21" wide Whitetail.

Federal match king 69gr shoot great out of mine........but then again I did try some wolf 62gr ammo and I was very suprised at the 1 inch group.......good enough for some cheap ground hog hunting.

Try some Hornady Vmax ammo since your stuck with commerical it's one of the more accurate rounds in my opinion. I never had much luck with the ammo you purchased. Look more in the 52 match group most 223's seem to do best with that gr no matter the twist.

I've got a Stevens in 223Rem ... FMJ ammunition (Fiocchi, Norinco, Rem) has just never shot that well. Good to do your sighting in onto paper and scope dialled in ... then its change to the hunting projectiles which will hover just under 1".
Cheers...

You can't use that cheap ammo and expect great groups it just doesn't work that way. ;D

Like Con my Stevens 223 does not shoot well with fmj. Handloads with Sierra/Hornady 52gr match I can get 5 shot groups down to 3/4 inch. I am sure your Predator can do better, if you don't handload try some factor loads with Sierra HP.

I hate to always suggest the obvious, but have you checked the action screws?
