If a sporter contoured barrel has a .7" diameter at 26" what would it be at 24"? What about a Varmint with the same dimensions? how much heavier will the varmint be? Trying to decide on a contour for a new barrel I'm ordering

Thanks

Varmint contour muzzle diameter should be in the .800" range whether 24 or 26 inches.

You can log on to ER Shaw, they list the weight of all the contours.

if I calculated right a sporter contour barrel that is .7 at 26 it would be .719" at 24"

Does this sound right?

Yeah, about that.

I drew up a barrel profile... .7176 exactly at 24 on the sporter. and my program wouldnt register it much over that for the varmint... but i figured it .7293" or 3/256 of an inch over the sporter's 23/32" of an inch muzzle diameter

by calculating it I'm getting a little different numbers .72" for the sporter and .7305 on the varmint.

But the whole reason I was asking this is to see what diameter muzzle brake and I didn't factor in coming back another .6 in length for the threads...

So... .726 on the sporter and .7397 on the varmint, calculated. And .7254" and .7396" measured on computer program

In case anyone is wondering when ordering a barrel thats 24 inches long and is .7 at the muzzle at 26

A little crazy... I know.

VjjR, you forgot to factor in that the barrel bore is never in the direct center of the barrel so if you order a break that is the exact size to what you figure it will still be off because the barrel is threaded to the bore not the contour of the barrel.
