ironheadmike81, there's no hurry, i am waiting on one from Krieger, that they say has been drilled, reamed , rifled and lapped, and one coming from pacnor....i am going to probably shoot which one gets here first about 10 rounds, and clean..before i send it off to be nitrided....i think i want to know it will shoot before spending $$$. Being the names they are, i have no doubt, but stuff happens every once in a while.....hopefully we can get some others to join in....even if they have been shot guys, they will still benefit from nitriding...as long as they aren't "shot out". I have an email to MMI to see about cost and qty, will call as soon as i hear back, will get price break levels, etc........rsbhunter

Russel,
This is the reply e-mail i just recieved from MMI-TruTec:
You can contact Freedom Gunworks, Bobby Keigans 229-330-4867 he can give you price. We no longer do work directly for the public only manufacturers with class 7 FFL.

That sucks, but I'm not surprised. Looks like I got mine done just in time.

Benchmark barrels is sending in shipments every two weeks. I have a 224 Minicoop and a 375 RUM barrel at Benchmark catching the next batch going in,next week. MMI dipped the current batch yesterday or the day before according to Benchmark source.

Though there is a growing number of middlemen getting in on the Nitride action many do not understand that the bores are incredibly filthy with sooty type product inside. If left uncleaned it will require serious work getting clean and the bores will require light lapping to remove what appears to be a cheese cloth type pattern on my extracted cases. The case requires a soft mallet and a number of raps on the bolt handle to extract the case from the chamber.

I am going through Benchmark these days because they too experienced one of those sooty bores so they are lap cleaning and micing the bores to their typical specs before sending the barrels back to the consumer.
Just one of 9 Nitrided barrels now and it was from a newby middleman.

So does the nitride come out with a park like texture to it or is it a much smoother finish?

It's a pretty smooth finish. I sand blasted mine before shipping and they came back a flat black.

Pretty interesting when thinking how to describe the finish. It is a deep blue black that looks like a million. On a bead blasted barrel or action is is a bit flatter but still has a very rich classy finish.

I really have trouble with the right words trying to describe the finish.

I like the finsh a lot comes to mind.

Hey 358Hammer-
So are you using only Benchmark barrels? Sending them tubes from

other manufacturers?

I have 4 Nitrided Savage barrels. They like money and I am guessing they do not care who made the barrel.

Ask them

I stickied this so it stays to the top if you want to work on a group project.

I'd be down for 1 barrel & action (if doable). Just ordered my barrel w/ NSS

I have found another place that will do the QPQ nitriding.....They have a 200.00 dollar minimum..., should do 4 bbls.....But i am also curious about the Freedom Gunworks maybe doing a mass ship deal...if you guys want, i will be more than glad to contact them and see if they would be interested....rsbhunter
