I know I can't use the magazine but can I use a SA for a LA cartridge. What I am thinking is using a SA for a 25-06. If I need to cut a clearance slot at the front of the receiver opening that is fine but other than that what else might be involved.

Will a loaded cartridge clear?

Empty clear?

Thanks

Think I would just trade the LA for a SA unless you need to keep the LA. I have put a 6.5x55 on a SA and it worked fine without any modification to the action.

I do, even feeding 7 mag through a short. to eject a loaded round ya have to release the bolt to slide it back far enough.

I was gonna say either that, or knock it off the bolthead and pick it out of the action with your fingers. It should eject a spent case just fine though.

I know a guy that actually used to shoot a 25-06 out of a short action with no problems other than the ones mentioned.

The Savage custom shop built me a left-hand single-shot 25-06.

They used a short action.

The short action had a different baffle on it than normal.

Could even feedand eject original long 300 Winchester Magnums.

Just looking at the short action I have. I don't see why the case from a long action round would not eject. The only problem I see is if you wanted to eject an unfired round.

I had a Remmy 40X (short action) 300 win mag and it did just fine ejecting spent rounds but had to hit the bolt release to slide back far enough to get unfired round out. The gun was very accurate out to 800yds. I know it ain't a savage but its an example of a LA round on a SA.
