Have any of you die hard 243 fellas out there ever loaded the Berger 95gr VLD for the Stevens 9.25 twist barrel. Wondering how well they shot. Wanting to see the effects on some TN whitetail come rifle season.

I have shot them out of a Savage bvss with a 9.25 twist. I shot several 5 shot groups in the 4." area at 600 yards in a couple of IBS match's with them. I found that my gun would stabilize the 107 SMK, and I liked them much much better. Looking at load data published, they have about the same max load but the heavier bullet makes the trip much faster, and shoots flatter. This was very obvious at 1000 yards. Your gun may or may not stabilize them. I never tried it, but heard that people have had good luck with the hornady 105 a-max in a factory twist 243. You may want to look at the 108 BIB bullet, they are for slower twist barrels. I was able to keep them together in my fast twist 6x47L and shot some very impressive 5 shot groups around 2." at 600 yards. With all that, I don't know if any of them would be a good choice for deer. Good luck I hope this helps.

I'm shooting a LRPV w/ 28" Mc Gowen-8 twist-SS barrel, in .243.
I shoot strictly Bergers[my gun only likes Bergers] over all other brands.
I've gone all the load workups you can do, on Berger 90 grain through 115 grains, and with the Berger 95 grain vld's, on a good day, I can shoot consistant 2's, sometimes less at 100 yds. 95 grain/42.5 H4350/seating-against the rifling[just touching] 2.895.
The 115 Berger's shoot even tighter groups, and funny with Ramshot Magnum, against the rifling. Lots of five shot, same hole with the choice 115 load workup.
108 grainers shoot pretty good also[not quite as good as 115's].
Not sure about game, as I shoot only Berger target bullets.
This gun shoots so good, I am in the process of selling my other guns, as this one is all I'm goona shoot from now on.

My son just shot his first deer (doe) with a 95 gr vld (6mm rem)high shoulder shot at 80 yards, it took out both lungs and put the deer straight down. I'd say they work fine on deer.

I have a .243 Savage. The 95g Bergers and the 95g Nosler Ballistic Tips shoot extremely well in my rifle with H34350. However, the Berger VLD's can be very sensitive to seating depth. They have an article on their website that addresses that. Either of these bullets will do fine for Whitetails...or Mule Deer for that matter.

I'm shooting them through a Remmy 700 with nothing done to it, and am getting 1/2 MOA with it.. Gonna be switching my 12FV Savage over as soon as I shoot up the 75gr. v-max I have loaded up...
