I've been tossing around the idea of getting a target rifle for a while now and after much consideration between all the different manufactures I ended up with a Savage. Got myself a model 12 LRPV right bolt, left port 223 with a 1 in 9" twist. It's all setup and ready to go with Weaver bases and Weaver quick detach rings which temporarily hold a Tasco 6-24x40. Now I just need the snow to melt so I can get to the range and have some fun.

You got yourself a fine rifle but, I would replace the scope with something better as soon as you could afford it. For the money, check out the Weaver 6.5X20X40 "40/44" series at Optics Planet. Last time I ordered, it was $203 shipped. I have two now and really like them.

Thank you. The Tasco is my fathers spare, I'm waiting to shoot it a bit before I put something else on it. My father and his shooting buddy have the Weaver T24's on their Savages. So many options out there :-\

I am very pleased with my 223 1 in 9 twist LRPV. I have a Sightron 8X32x56mm scope on it and it shoots in the low 2's 5 short groups my loads are (1) 25.0gr W748 69gr Sierra Match Kings Federal 205M (either Remington or Winchester case) .005 off the lands.
(2) 24.0gr W748 Berger 73gr Match Federal 205M With (either Remington or Winchester case) touching the lands.

k80, thanks for the load tips I've heard really good things about the 69gr Sierra bullets and I'm really looking foreward to trying the Bergers in this and my 7mm Rem Mag.

I didn't go with any fancy mounts. I used weaver (2) piece bases #64 for both front and rear and a set of Burris Signature Zee rings the ones that have 2 screws on each side if ring and couldn't be happier with this set up. Good and cheap a winning combernation.
