Can anyone here tell me if a .220 Swift requires a long action to properly feed? This is in a Savage of course. Thanks in advance.

i dont see a problem with using a short action. 220swift case is only .0215 longer than the 308 which is a short action

I'm not very familiar with the 220 swift but the only problem you might run into putting it on a short action is seating the bullets long and getting them to feed from the short action magazine

Thanks guys for the info. Guess I'll have to do some more checking on mag length before I buy.

no matter how far you seat them theyre not gonna be as long as the .308

According to the Hodgdon web site, the maximum overall cartridge length they list for the 220 Swift is 2.68" while the longest .308 Win COL is 2.80" so, even if you load the Swift rather long, it will still be within the .308's length. A short action should be fine.

Remember that the Swift is a semi-rimmed case. When you put rounds down into the magazine that the rim of the top round has to be in front of the one below it and so on.

It also depends on the bullet you're going to be using and the chamber.

If you are running long VLD style bullets with a long throat, you can run out of mag length fast.

I just build everything on a long action. It easier that way.
