270 win 95 gr barnes ttsx bullet at 3700 fps vs pig - graphic

11 am this morning broad daylight no less.
About 80 lb'r quartering, exit at the ham with about a 6" exit hole and blew out about half the guts.

There were about 5-6 around the same size. Shot at 2 more on the run but could not dial in.

MMMMMMMMMMMM bacon, Hey tammons can you share info on how to propel a 95 grainer to 3700, I use sierra 90's and it takes all my small change to get them to 3600.

I have not chronographed the load yet, but that is out of the barnes manual, over RL17
The barnes data list a 24" barrel at a tad over 3800 fps and I an running it a bit hotter
in a 22" barrel etc.

Try some RL17

The speed is probably more like 3650 or so.

We also have a 270 weatherby magnum, so I could probably get 3850 out of that thing,
but cant figure why I would want to.

Actually its worse than it looks in that pic.
It blew out about 1/3rd of its back and upper ass end.

All I have for now, until I make it back to GA for more hog target practice.

Couple of years ago I did shoot a few with a 375 ruger loaded with a 270 gr TSX.
That was interesting.
Puts them down with authority, but way overkill.

I hit one on the run and it did a flip, rolls, sliding, sqealing etc.
Lots of gymnastics.

Like a moron I sold the barrel and now I want another one.

Shot quite a few with my old 338-284 with 210 TTSX bullets and that rifle put them down PDQ
with a lot of this and that hanging out.

The all time gore maker though is this 270 win loaded with the 95 gr TTSX.
Massive hydraulic force. Never seen a roudn that would blow out the entire @$$ end and 1/3 of the back of an animal.

All the rest of our kills were 6.8 spc, 243, 308, 7mm-08, etc and nothing special.

I would opt for the 130 grain bullet if your saving that meat!

I really like the light TTSX bullets in my 270 WSM, I'm smoking out the 110's with R17 and a coyote doesn't even twitch after the hit. Hit one on the move through the hips and it dropped like I shot it thought the shoulders, looked about like your porker!

I have 130 grainers loaded.

The POI is a bit lower than the 95 gr TTSX but the real downer is the POI 4" left due to torque.
Still can compensate.

I could also load some reduced 95 gr loads to about 2800-3000 and that would help.
I hate F'ing pigs anyway and a lot of times they just get recycled into buzzard food.
Can only eat so many of the bastards anyway.

We just spent $500 on fertilizer and about $300 on Chufa seed and the pigs dug every one of them up.

I wanted a load that would be a real sledgehammer and would shoot inside 4" at 300 yards.
10" low at 400, 24" low at 500 yards.

Hey Tammons I have been loading a full case of RL17 and H4350, "they have the same burn rate" with a 90gr sierra HP and see 3900+ consistently, and I am allways amazed at how far they travel before starting to drop, it almost seems bullet trajectory laws do not apply, anyway really sorry to hear about your crop, on the same note 58gr of varget with those same sierra's brings similar results.
