Just bought my first Savage- a 99e .243 with mounted Weaver K4. Smooth action, no pitting- great looking rifle but it has a recoil pad that I don't want. If I remove the pad, the stock will be short and squared off so I want to do a replacement. Paid less than $400 at a local gun shop, so I feel like I have some money to play with; I'm in Austin, Tx- anybody know of a gunsmith in my area who would do a nice job? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Keep your eye on Ebay, they have an E buttstock on there right now.

Numrichs also carries E stocks. They're not hard to find. Good luck!
