Smoother bolt handle

I came across this article http://www.steyrscout.org/savscout.htm indicating where to polish in order to get a smoother cycling bolt.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any other articles or a DIY with pictures and reference to sand paper grits or polishing compounds.

Has anyone done this to their bolt and if so, how much smoother is it?

I'll also add a lift kit and re-spring and tune my triggers.

What about using a lapping compound on the 2 surfaces& cycling the parts?

I came across a DIY bolt lift kit write up on Snipershide (I think its also on Snipercentral), I think I will try that first before I start sanding off the black finish.

Where do you get the bolt lift kit from, SSS or do you make it yourself with the .38 case and ball bearing?
I went on SSS website and didn't see anything about a bolt lift kit, do they sell you a .38 case and bearing?

I make my own. I wander around the local range and pick up plenty if the brass scroungers haven't got them all.

Cut it down to the case head, deprime and glue in a bearing. Trim the BAS by the thickness of the case rim and bearing protrusion.

Drop it in and go. I've noticed that the stainless BAS work better. The blue ones will dimple and drag a little more.

It's worth it either way.

I polished the cam area with some really high grit sand paper (micro mesh). Doing this eliminated the grainy feeling my action had lifting the bolt.
