savage 12bvss year help?

I got a savage 12bvss 22-250
it has a ss trigger not accu trigger
also i was told all accu trigger guns have a round rear reciever .
this one is flat so it must be a pre accutrigger?
What year did they start the accutrigger?

Kurt, I can't answer your question, but I also have a 12 BVSS, mine is a .223, but it has an accu-trigger. As far as flat back, I was a bit confused as well because mine has a flat back bolt handle but the rear of the reciever, when I looked closer, is actually round. Don't know what this is about, I did get mine second-hand but the guy swears he didn't change the handle. Guess It came that way?......

Yes you are correct it is a pre-accu-trigger model. Some of the early BVSS came with a Sharp Shooters Supply (SSS) competition trigger, but if yours has a stainless trigger then it is an older model. If memory serves right the accu-trigger came out in 2000, when it came out it was an option you could get a gun with either trigger. When Savage started offering the accu-trigger they stopped installing the SSS trigger. I would say your gun was built after the start of the accu-trigger, but before it was made standard. The best way to tell what year is to send Mad Dog a PM with the SN. I would be willing to bet your gun was made between 2000 and 2004.

Savage did not change the bolt handle design until much latter after the accu-trigger was standard on all models.

I am new to savage but i have found lots of good stuff here.
so if its 2002 what feed would this be cf or sf?
also this would be a small barrel shank right.

The pre accu-trigger guns was all staggered feed. the center feed did not come out until 2006.
