I contacted Hornady, and they say their dies are acceptable for the norma version.

Now, just gotta get some brass, well, and the barrel.

Glad i read this post, as i just recieved a call from Krieger asking if i wanted the "Winchester" or the "Norma" chamber....so there must be something different...but at least if it is the leade, or freebore being longer..that is what i wanted......now for the dies.....$160.00-$225.00!!!! These "cheap' guns are putting me in the poor house!!!!!!rsbhunter

I'm using the Redding bushing dies. I've been pretty happy with them. I have the FL and neck bushing dies, as well as the body "bump" die, and the competition seater die.

I have the Predator Max 1 in 6.5 x 284. I enjoy the caliber quite a bit. If this barrel goes in under 1K I am most likely going to switch to the swede. 2600 fps and lower pressures has to be a bit better than the 6.5 x 284.

Good points earlier on the barrel burner tag. I load my 270 more like a 25-06 with 110 gr barnes TSX pushing way ahead of 3000 fps. In a sporter barrel I am sure it is pretty rough treatment.

Norma filed the paper work and made their version a standard factory cartridge.
If you insist on a short action with a magazine, a .260 Rem may be a better choice.
The long Norma is making this a popular round, and is the one to get IMHO

+1 on the above. All I use is Lapua brass in mine. Norma is the standard chamber unless your John Hoover.

Google John Hoover and you will find several good articles on the 6.5x284
