I want to ditch the bipods on my rifles... Can you guys show me (Preferably with pics) The most accurate shooting positions without a bipod. Preferably taking advantage of a sling.

Here is one I liked.

Seated in a box blind is my favorite shooting position. ;)

Second favorite is seated in the brush, shooting off the sticks.

Print, knealing or standing in that order.

Gun is laying across or on a back pack which is laying on a large rock or edge of a piece of high ground. Knealing or standing would require pinning the gun against a rock or tree in most cases with standing virtually never happening except in the case of a moose or bear up close and personal.

Where I have hunted for 35 years I compete with NO one so all shots are without the animal aware of my presence.

Now that I am old and brittle, I like to do the military sitting position! Sitting down does have it's rewards gents. ;D :o

Works all the way to 1k (plus some):

Although it helps if you don't have *quite* this much wind...

I prefer kneeling. I shoot right hand, so I drop my right knee to the ground, and sit on my right foot (foot is vertical). My left leg is bent so that my left elbow will sit over the front of my left knee cap and I can easily steady the rifle's fore end that way. I can drop down to this position pretty fast for a shot ( I used to be able to get up just as fast, but it takes longer now). You can utilize a sling this way if you wish. I don't, not really needed, as with your elbow past the knee cap, and not sitting on the knee cap, it's pretty steady that way.

I never shoot prone while hunting. There's never been one time where I would have been able to see over the grass/brush/etc, and it just takes too long to get down there (unless you fall - and it takes even LONGER to get back up again).

I never use bipods. I've had several hunting buddies that were in to them. I've seen a whole bunch of missed shots because guys are way too busy diddling around with the stupid bipod, trying to get it "situated", to make the shot, and the deer, coyote, whatever is LONG GONE.

Use a "hasty" sling and take whatever position allows you the shot.

I use a bipod when I know I will be "set-up" such as woodchucks/ calling setups for coyotes.

For everything else, I like the "standard" shooting positions with an adjustable sling. Like Slim, I never really get a chance to shoot prone. With a lot of practice i have been getting proficient with the kneeling style as well but still prefer sitting/ indian style.

What sling are you guys using? I have been sticking to my "Montana" brand quick adjust leather sling.

Those sights interest me! Is the rear sight mounted to the rail, or is that for something else?

Prone is the best but here is my favorite sitting position using a sling.
