Savage 111 300wm to 25-06

Anyone here ever convert a round reciever 111 from a magnum to a standard bolt face? If so, I have the magazine that is attatched to my stock, can they be swapped out? I tried to figure out how to remove it when I painted the stock but didnt want to mess with it much and ended up just taping over it while spraying. I am thinking I want to play with a 25-06....would it be easier to just buy a new one?

Swap barrel and bolt head and your mag should work fine with the 06 case

Thanks sinman...I never would have thunk. Thats about as easy as it gets. I will give it a try then. Out of curiousity, do you have a guess as to how a short action case would feed i.e. 308 win or similar or would I need a new magazine at that point?

You can do a 308 in that factory mag just fine. Or you could find a mag from a 30-06 version and that will work also. The bigger sa's work pretty good in the la's.
