B&C Medalist converted to Lefty...progress

Hey Folks. Just thought I'd throw up some pics of my progress so far. My B&C came in today, and I went at it with the dremel.

I cut the left side bolt notch out with a cut off wheel mostly, then shaped it with a sanding drum. Turned out pretty well I think.

Then I roughed the right side notch up and drilled some holes to give the Devcon something to hold onto.

And after using some 3m "bedding" tape from Midway, I dammed up the inside of the notch, filled it with Devcon, and then dammed up the outside. Release agent was sprayed on the inside of the tape.

It's not 100% flush with the edges, but I'm going to finish that out later.

After this all cures up, I'm going to be attempting to bed the stock. I'm still REALLY nervous about that rear pillar and the extremely close tolerance from the sear to the pillar. I've got modeling clay to pack all the gaps in with, and I'm figuring I'll wrap the bedding/masking tape around the entire trigger assembly/sear as well for extra insurance.

Here's some updated pics.

After I got everything filled in, filed, sanded, and smoothed, I needed to add more texture to the stock to somewhat match what was on it when I received it. I picked up some webbing spray to do the job. It works pretty well. Comes out like thin silly string almost. I then sprayed satin black over the webbing after it tacked up a bit since the webbing came out kinda glossy.

Here's a close up of the right side. You can see the notch just a bit if you look for it, but if you don't know it's there (or was there) you wouldn't notice. The webbing texture really helps hide it.

Here's a pic of the finished project. I think I may go back and hit the stock with some matte clear. It's a bit too shiny for me, even for a satin finish.

Nice job!!!!! Taking on a job like that always make me nervous, but unless you give it a shot.....let us know how the bedding job comes out, and how it shoots!!! rsbhunter

That is quite a nice job I have a Medalist that I may do for my buddy after seeing that. When I bed a action I just remove the trigger assembly

It was actually quite easy. Just be careful with your cutting tool whether it's a dremel or filing by hand. The fiberglass cuts REALLY easily, and goes everywhere. I basically just cut down to a depth a little above the depth of the right side bolt notch, and then used a round sanding drum to angle the notch deeper and cut at the right angle.

Filling the hole was the easiest part. The Devcon did all the work, lol. After it dried, it too is very easy to sand and shape. Again, the web texture really helped with the final result, but if I were going for a smoother finish and not using the webbing, I would have spent a little more time with finer grits of sandpaper to blend the devcon into the stock. Not necessary here though since I went the textured route.
