Guess I should have also mentioned that this is(will be when paid for)my first savage and first for this caliber. What kind of range can I expect out of factory loads as I do not load any

i have the savage 11FCNS in 22-250 with a 22" sporter barrel. shoots very nice. i bought it for hunting but started using it at the range alot more. the barrel does get warm-hot after a handfull of rounds and you have to wait for it to cool. barrel life isn't the geatest either. if your buying just to hunt and not shoot at targets alot the 22-250 is an excellent predator/varmint round.

I only intend on it being a hunting rifle with factory loads. What kind of barrel life should I be looking at? I guess if I burn it I will have to upgrade :) thanks for the info.

I have a 22-250 Rem. 700 action that had a Douglas Supreme 24 inch sporter barrel on it when I bought it. I bought it in 1966 just replaced the barrel last year. When I bought it it would shoot 1/4 inch 5 shot groups at 100 yds. and after 10k rounds it still would shoot 1 1/4 groups. I mostly used it for hunting and some target shooting. Barrel life depends on how hot you allow it to get, cleaning methods, and ammo used. You will find about 5 to 10 shots in a row will warm it up pretty good and may require cool down time.

I hope to get that much life out of mine. Any recommendations on barrel break in? Should I go by what savage says or is there a better way?
