So I was at Big 5 today and noticed they still had a Savage Edge XP in 223. One of the scope combo. I am looking for a gun for just target practice so I was wondering if anyone knew much about this particular gun. I was thinking of picking it.

So is this a good gun to have or not?

Thanks for any advice.

It is a good gun if you never want to do anything else with it, and you would be completely happy with it in its present form.

It would be strictly for going to a 100yd range and practicing. I have a hunting rifle (30-06) but it cost to much to go out and shoot a box. And for playing at less then 100yds I've got an old Savage Model 4 for that.

Thank you for the advice.

I have the Axis .223 basically the same gun. I put a nikon prostaff 3-9x40 BDC scope on it and replaced the trigger with a rifle basix trigger set at 2#.This gun shoots very well with this setup. Had it out hunting coyotes today, and got one at 250 yards. I have no complaints and the gun is very accurate.

you can do something with it if you have the desire, I keep hearing you can't but I'm doing otherwise.

I have the Edge in .223. I have the trigger down to 2.5lbs with little creep for a total of $5.75. I have a 6X24X50 scope on it and using handloads I am getting great results at 200 yards (the farthest I have access to). Yes it is basic. No there are not a lot of aftermarket products available. But if you are comfortable with your skills it is much more than a "100 yard plinker". Good luck if you get it

I have an Edge in .243, never shot any factory fodder in it. but it is sub moa with Sterra 60 gr and different powders right out of the box. doese'nt seem to be load fussy. did fool around with factory trigger a bit, 'bout 3 lbs and no creep. as is 300 yd chuck gun, tickles me pink. oh, 5x15x40 mil-dot Bushnell Legand in Weaver rings and bases. less than $400 in it. I think it's great.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm going to look at one other gun and then pull the trigger.

Just what is everyone doing to the Edge/ Axis trigger to lighten it up trigger pull wise? I have a Edge in 243, Nice deer/ groundhog gun
would like a lighter trigger pull, With out have to buy another trigger.

Thanks for any input

I swapped the factory trigger for a rifle basix trigger set at 2#. Makes a real nice shooter.

buy another spring and a roll pin from a hardware store, then fit it

Try this link on the Predator Master's Forum. It will give you good detail on how to rework the stock trigger. My Edge 223 shoots excellent. Savage is investing a lot of energy into this rifle with now producing them in stainless. I expect that means upgrades and aftermarket stuff will follow. Mine is fine just like it is, and all it needs is more bullets, more bullets, and more bullets.
