I like the stock because I didnt have to do any fitting. I pulled the mag out of the tupperware and tossed it in fit like a charm. I did have to remove some material to free float the barrel

got it out to the range today. this was my only three shots at 200. I was using the 100 gr remington core-lokts. do you think I could really get the groups down with a nice hand load. I have been shooting rifles and hunting my whole life even did a stint in the army 00-07 so I am extremly confident in my shooting ability. I just have never gotten into super tight groups before. The reason this has all come about is that Ill be doing some out west hunting and the shots at the new deer lease in texas can be as far as you can shoot. I first and foremost try my best of being an ethical hunter. So if I take that shot at 500 yards I want it to hit where I was aiming. any other time I would have called that one a flier and went to the woods since LONG shots were 300 yards. So any hand load recipes or a good commercial round that has worked good out of your 25-06 is appreciated. I thank everyone in advance for the help and for the info on this site so I could get this rifle together.

Why is this caliber so popular? IT SEEMS LIKE i am seeing a lot of it lately. ???

It shoots like a .22-250 with a heaver bullet.

Since Berger has VLD's for .270 I fail to see the advantage. If speed is desired, 90 to 100-grain bullets can be loaded in .270 also. The Bergers and others are good for long-range...

The following ammo is very well thought of on Midway (read comments). It's expensive but I doubt the hand-load would beat it. Oh, and I handload but hey it's not for everyone.

the .25-06 shoots far and flat with little recoil. As a deer caliber, it is amazing. The deer just tip over and die. A 100 grain spft point at 3350 fps is a killer.

Congratulations on your first build! Very nice looking rig...
That 110 gr accubond should do an awesome job too.
Just a warning ... this stuff is highly addictive

I had a 25-06 for years and used it to manage does for the DMAP program. Killed well over 200 deer with it. Do yourself a favor and shoot some barnes 85 grain ttsx, 100 grain nosler partitions, or 100 grain scirocco out of it. I handload and I tried every 85 and 100 grain bullet available. Most bullets blew up except the three I mentioned which were absolut death rays. I now shoot its big brother, the 257 Weatherby, and a 100 grain scirocco's at 3750 is some bad whitetail juju.

ditched the bipod for this test and went off the sand bags. This things tells me that this gun shoots better than my abilities and that I i need to get rid of this factory trigger. I am glad that iam finally done. Just need to pick a load

Four shot group felt like i moved the rifle before the third shot so I shot a 4th. this would have been a sub Half MOA but decided to measure the pulled shot.

Best measured group I like the RL22

One piece of advice, use a barrel no shorter than 26" for your 25-06. The 22" factory barrel is like putting skinny tires on a drag racer.

BrentWin I have 2 25-06's one with a 22 " barrel and a 112 BVSS with a 26 inch barrel. The 22 inch has been giving me 3400+ with no pressure signs and RL-22 and 100 gr.Sie. I have had time to Chrono the BVSS yet but bet it not much faster. I have had the 22" longer and it shoots great with 100 and 75 gr Sierras.

Then I wouuld say you have a very "fast' barrel. I tested a Marlin 22" recently & the velocity was terrible, probably a "slow" barrel. But overall, the 25-06 seems to benefit from a longer tube more than any std. round I can think of & should have at least a 24", & I like 26" better, just like a 257 Wea. or .264WM should have a 26" as a minimum, but some Vangards have good velocity. It just ups the odds a bit.

Just a little update I claimed my first kill with the 25-06 this saturday. I took a cull buck at over 300 yards. DRT. love this gun.
