I just picked up a stainless 116 (accu-trigger/accu-stock) in a 30-06 as the basis for a long range shooter. What a great gun, I can't wait to get it to the range!

My initial thought was to "match" the stainless finish of the gun with a silver scope, but now that I'm scope shopping, I'm realizing that by looking at just "silver" scopes, I'm REALLY limiting my options! I realize that scope-color is NOT the correct way to shop for a scope, but I pictured this gun in my head with a silver scope and am now having a tough time convincing myself that a black scope will look OK.

Can I get some thoughts (and maybe some pics!) from others on the forum regarding where I should go from here? I haven't picked out the exact scope I'd like to purchase, but I'm looking to put a "VERY NICE" scope on this gun. Not a top of the line $2K scope, but something along the lines of a Bushnell Elite 6500 (or similar comparable model in another brand). ($500-$800)

Also, if I do end up with a "matte" scope on a silver gun, how do you think I should match rings and base? Silver, or black?

Thanks!

most silver scopes are nickel plate and don't match exactly anyway. use color as a decider after the other features you want are met.

I would get a matte black scope, rings and base. The vast majority of scopes sold today are matte black. If you ever decide to sell it, the matte will be easier to move. All of my stainless rifles have matte black scopes and rings.

I like the matte black on stainless gun look.

The "stainless" finish scopes don't match stainless guns and look really bad (in my opinion) if you swap scopes around and it winds up on a blued gun.

I like the 2 piece because of the loading port access and yes they are rock solid.

I went that route, with a Ruger#1 K1V and a Leupold VX3 6.5-20X 40.Thinking that since Leupold made the scope they woul surely have silver rings to match.
Well they don't have the ruger rings in silver,so I went with Warne rings ,which are great rings but the silkver is stainless,so no match in color.I mover that scope to another rifle with stainles bases and Leupold standard medium rings in silver to match.I have rear off set Matte rings for the K1V and a Matte finished scope.I like both.I believe you can get set up with a nice variable in 1" or 30mm with silver rings, for the $$ you want to sopend.Leupold will fix you up with a M1 elevation turret if desired ,or a reticle can take care of longer ranges.
