I have a .338 win mag Weather Warrior and I am considering changing to a different barrel/caliber. Can anyone explain to this Savage noob what I can change to?
Thanks in advance...this is a great forum you all have here.

I guess I should provide a little more info. I don't know exactly how old this rig is but it has the accutrigger but not the accustock. It is pert-near unfired...as far as I know only 1 round through it.
Thanks again!

Basically anything from 204 ruger to 458 WM and more.
I think there is a guy here with a 45 ACP savage.

With the 223 based head size you will need a custom bolt head from SSS. Same with PPC, 7.62x39 or 6.8 SPC or any other odd balls.
The short cartridges probably will not feed from a LA mag, but I have never tried it.
Might from a centerfeed though.

Savage used to make the 223 in a long action, but not sure what mag it used.

Dumb question possibly and I'm sure it's been hashed out here a million times, but what are the requirements for changing?
Let's say I want to find a .257 Roy barrel for this gun(I don't even know if there is such a thing...called it for the sake of conversation). I see the case head for the .338 is .532 and the length is 3.34". The Roy is very close to the same. What do I need to change? Just the barrel?
The bolt too?

Forgive me for being a noob.
Thanks in advance.

If the case head is the same OD as the original round, all you will need is the tools, go gauge, and barrel.

there is two actions long and short. the long action will chamber the long action rounds and also the short action rounds. you may have to shoot it single shot or modify the magazine because some may not feed. The same bolt head can be used for multiple cartridges as long as they have the same size base. You dont have to change the bolt, just the bolt head
