I heard that some 204 rifle brass has small rifle primer pockets, and some have large ?
If so, which brand has what ?
Also, I would personally prefer the brass with large rifle, since I already reload and have in stock, large rifle primers.
What if any, is the down side to using large rifle primers ?
Thanks

.204 calls for small rifle primers. I've used, I think, every brand of .204 brass and none of it is set up for large rifle. In fact if it were there would be no base left on the case to form the web and the case would be weak.

The only cartridge that I know of that is widely available with either small or large rifle primer pockets is the 6.8 SPC and the small rifle is much preferred for consistency of loads. Of the three main manufacturers of 6.8 brass, only Remington has stuck with the large primer. I don't get too concerned about my Remington 6.8 brass and won't really care if I lose some of it.

I have found Hornaday 204 bass pockets to be tighter, that other brass. In fact it was so tight i could not get my pocket uniformer inside to cut the pockets.

I've experienced the same problem with some RP 223 Rem brass recently. Was a total pain getting the pockets uniformed. I had to run all the cases over my Dillon swager before I could insert the pp uniformer.

My experience with Hornady and Frontier brass is that the chamfer around the primer pocket is smaller than many others making it more sensitive to primer alignment when seating primers.
