The cartridge you're referring to would be the 7mm STW. I'm sure you could find a prefit though PacNor. They have reamers for everything.

That would not be the 7mm STW. The STW is based off the 8mm Magnum not the 300 Winchester Magnum.

Sounds like it won't do anything a 7mm weatherby mag won't do. I would step up to a 7stw or 7x300 weatherby.

I know there are other cartridges out there but a 7-300 win mag is what I want. I believe after do a bit of research that the 300 win mag case is the most ideal case for pushing the 180 grain bullet with out going to severe overbore area. I already had a 7 RUM and 7WSM and burnt those barrels out. Although they are great cartridges I have been there and done that looking to play with a new round. I stay away from all Weatherby rounds because I do not like paying for their brass, I have not had good experience with their brass.

I don't think a 7x300 win would be better than a 7wsm for barrel life. But to answer you specific question I would call mcgowen and see if they can get the reamer for it, they have a place they rent what they don't have, for a fee, Pac-Nor lists it as one of their chamberings but I know nothing about ordering from them. I didn't know they did savage prefits. You could call shilen also, they don't list it but that doesn't mean they don't offer it.

Sinman is developing these. The 338 is first, but I hope the 7mm is next.

It's going to be based on shortened and improved ultra mag brass. His goal is to get as much powder as possible and still be able to feed it as a repeater in a magnum magazine.

In the 7mm, it should fall between the 7RUM and 7STW.

That would not be the 7mm STW. The STW is based off the 8mm Magnum not the 300 Winchester Magnum.


You are correct; I meant to say that the cartridge he would most likely want would be the STW based on the fact that it's a more common cartridge, and based on the long belted magnum cartridge versus the short like the 7 and 338 WinMag's. Got a little ahead of myself there :-)

It should be less than both of those. It should be about the same length as the Norma, but the Norma is a fatter case.

Looking at a bunch of case drawings, and not seeing Sinmans reamer print, I would guess the case will have about 100-105g's of capacity.

The Edge and Norma have roughly 110g.

The 338 Sin should fall between the 338-375Ruger and the 338RUM.

The 338 Sin holds about 6grs less than a 338 rum. I am hoping the Sin will be a little more efficient with the shoulder change to compensate for some of the powder loss and be able to match the 338 rum performance.

I do not know what case was the parent case but I am seeing/hearing reports of 100-150fps faster than the 7mm with the 180 Hybrid bullet. By using the 300 win mag brass quickload is seeing anywhere up to 10grains more of powder in the case. So essentially you are getting 7STW or 7 RUM speeds with 7 rem mag powder capacity and barrel life. That is what I gathered from it but if you run the 180grain berger vld at 3100-3150fps on JBM ballistics it is quite impressive. Barrels are meant to be shot up so see what happens.

Impossible, you would never match 7mm Rum speeds, and I have doubts you would match 7mm stw speeds either.

They are both based off of the 375 H&H but the 300 win mag has more capacity than the 7mm rem mag because the shoulder is taller giving it more room in the case for powder. The overall length is about the same but the case length is slightly longer for the 300 and it has a taller shoulder. The 7mm rem mag case length is 2.5" and if memory serves correctly the 300 win mag case is 2.65 or 2.63. It has a shorter neck to keep the COAL the same so as to cycle in 30-06 length actions.

Well not exactly the 7 RUM but close enough for me. My best 7 Rum load ran just over 3100 with the 180 Berger and I think I can push the Berger Vld hopefully near that mark.
