I'm planning on buying one soon and I have a few questions. I know that the chances of getting a new older model with the 4.2'' spacing and staggered feed anywhere isn't very good at all. How much work is going to need to be done to get my Stevens 200 into an older Savage 11 or 16 stock with the old spacing? I can get a couple very nice short action Savage stocks from Numrich's at some very reasonable prices. I guess I could just get the Stevens in .223 caliber but I'd really like to think outside the box and use the 22-250 instead.

Sorry can't really answer your question, but have you considered just getting a used rifle and building what you want?

The new Stevens 200 in the .223 caliber, for whatever reason, are still being manufactured in the old staggered feed 4.2'' spacing design. So a replacement stock is easily found just about anywhere. Meanwhile, I'm really wanting the 200 in .22-250 caliber and it is center feed 4.4'' spacing like the rest of the new Savages these days. So, I can't get a good replacement stock for it without spending a ton. But I've heard that with a little work you can fit the Stevens short action centerfeed with the 4.4'' spacing into a Savage model 11 or 14 stock. I suppose my question is....what exactly would have to be done to these 4.2'' spaced stocks to make my 4.4'' spaced Stevens fit into it properly?
