New area for me - for those in the know, is it possible to take a barrel with a muzzle diameter of ~.653" and fit a muzzle break to it? Will it look okay?

Barrel is .22 cal and I'd prefer something like the Vais brake

I'm sure a competent gunsmith could. There is more than one on this forum that would be glad to.

Regardless, then barrel will have to be removed for threading, so they might as well fit it then.

Second option, magnaport.

Yep...it can be done.

If the barrel is long enough...and the thru hole in the headstock is short enough, barrel does not have to be removed.

I prefer to cut with a shoulder on the barrel...

Ok, I know it can be done......does it look good?

Say a .750" outside diameter Vais brake on a barrel that's .650" at the muzzle? Barrel in question is not on an action. It's 24" long set up for a small shank savage action.

Anyone got pics?

When they thread the barrel for the muzzle brake the smith can also turn it down to the same o.d. As the barrel

Trapppppp - barely noticeably....0.050" on each side.

Devin Sinner put that break on my .223 tapered barrel at about .745" dia (muzzle) and it is a perfect fit without shoulder or transition noticeable. Mine is a 20" barrel.
