Savage safety switch question

I recently picked up a Savage 116 stagger-feed flat rear rifle. I'm not real crazy about the older (small) safety. I have adjusted the tension, but still find it difficult to operate and haven't even tried with a gloved hand. Does anyone make an oversized safety switch or can the newer style switch be used with the older rifle?

I don't think anyone makes a wider switch, and no the newer style accu-trigger safety will not work.
