Which Elite 4200...

I've a new 12 VLP lefty 204 in bound and I work for a shop where I can get a pretty big discount on Bushnell scopes. Mostly going to be a target/varmint shooter and I'm looking for some suggestions on the 4200 line. I'm looking at the 6-24 range and I'm guessing the 50mm would be preferred to the 40??

Also if I go with the 4200 6-24x50, what type egw one piece base and rings (30mm) would you suggest.

Medium rings with the 50 and put an adjustable comb on it. I had a 50 on a BVSS which had a big stock to begin with but I still needed a higher comb. I see nimrods at the range all the time trying to hold their heads till because their using big scopes on little stocks. If your head is not anchored to the stock accuracy will suffer.

How far out are you planning to shoot? If you're planning on using the turrets, the 30mm will give you more range of adjustment. If you're going to use the mils, or if you're not going to be shooting too far away, you may not need that. And unless you're going to be shooting in low-light, you won't need a 50mm. Not trying to tell you what you want, but there's a big price difference between the 6-24x50 30mm, compared to the 6-24x40 1". And you'll have less of an issue with what the captain was talking about. FWIW, I think the 4200's are an awesome deal for the money. Especially if you get a discount.

I have a couple of Elite 4200 6X24X50's for sale in the classifieds. Might be cheaper than you can get them thru work.

For groundhogs, rockchucks, and many other varmints, the 50mm for low light might be the way to go.

Not needed for prairie dogs which are normally shot in very bright sunny conditions.

I'd think 250 is the max I'd probably be shooting with the 204 and I'm still pondering the 40 vs 50 mm. Aperture usually wins.
