mod. 99 w/ bulged barrel?

i have a model 99 made in 1951/300 savage. i`ve had it for about 4 years and shot it quite a bit and it is pretty accurate. when i run my finger down the barrel, i can feel a very slight bulge when i get to the front sight. when looking down the barrel, it is shiney until it gets to the front sight, then its dull. the muzzle area is shiney again. is this the way they were made?

No, they sure weren't made like that. I'd have a gun smith take a ook at it and see if it's still safe enough to be shooting before the end of the barrel splits like a banana.

He could cut it down and put a new sight on it.As long as he doesnt have to cut 4 inches off or something.
