Savage model 1899 in 25-35 worth restoring?

Hi guys, I have the above rifle in a box in pieces, it has the curved steel butt plate and is a takedown model. It is in rough shape but I think it can be salvaged. Is it worth it?

Almost certainly worth more as is than "restored"

It doesn't have sentimental value, I don't even know how my Dad ended up with it, the problem is it looks like someone has started to sand it down or something so at this point it should probably be finished off i guess, here's a pic:

Ouch, she'd be a workout putting her back together and it's in pretty rough shape.

Whats the serial number range of it?

If it is harassed condition currently, there is no collector value. It now come down to how much you want to spend. could get expensive depending on who you find to do the work. Best pricing estimates would come from the shops you ask.

In my $2 cents it would depend on how much you want to spend and do you want to shoot it when you are done with it or do you want to hang it on the mantel.

It won't ever be worth big money now - if you want to put it together as a shooter that would be reasonable (I would just get it cleaned and hot blued or even parkerized). If you are looking to get money out of it, I would be tempted to part it out on gunbroker (or auction the whole thing there).

25-35's are pretty rare - there would be some pretty big interest in the barrel and carrier/spool.

Is the bore good or is it rough too? Are there sights with the barrel?

I was gonna tell him to part it out as well, would be worth more money that way. If you sold the carrier and the barrel together you could get a good price on them. T/D forearms are worth a bit these days as well.


Looks to be a big hunk of wood missing out of the cheek on the buttstock as well.

since its already taken apart, go have it cerakoted, rework the wood and keep it.

Thanks guys for the input! I live up in Canada so I don't know if I want to go through the hassle of putting it on gun broker, I might take it by our local gunsmith and get his 2cents. I kind of like the idea of just putting it back together and maybe taking it to the range once in a while.

Eric the bore doesn't look too bad but the sight are missing. shouldn't be too hard to find some replacements though?

Where are the rest of the internals?

You'll need more than just the carrier and the bolt to put that gun back into working order.

Hey mad dog, i live in Calgary, I have the rest of the parts in a box, not sure I have allthe bits though. Is there a sight that would show an exploded view of this particular gun?

Not a takedown model, but all other parts are the same.
