Thinking I would like to build one on LA Savage...limited for long range coyote round...shoot something different..easy to form, easy brass supply. Anyone shooting one? Probably try and get pre-fit barrel. I know it is a barrel burned..1000-1300 ronds. Not going to push it too hard,. Thinking of using 87-105 gr bullets. What twist would work for this?

1-8" ,if it were me I would look at the 6-6.5x47L or the 6 Norma BR in the same twist. lots better barrel life

what distances you planning on shooting??

TD, I had a 6-284 and it shot like a laser with 107 sierra's. Should get the same velocities out of the 6-06.
I would go with the 8-twist. I was able to shoot 115 DTAC's through mine but never shot anything lighter than 95gr.
My barrel only lasted about 800rnds before I set it back, but I was using it in F-class and pushing it very hard. I would expect more life from a huntin gun.

Those bullet weights fall right in the sweet spot for a 25-06 and there are some super bullets to choose from.

1 in 8 should work well. I look at the one every once in a while also. brass is easy to find.
Barrels in shorter cartridges that have some throat wear can be rechambered. You know them dime a dozen, everyone has one like a but hole .243s and 6brs. :) .244AI might work for ya also.

I checked ER Shaw..they have a Savage prefit and chambered to your action Chrome moly for $160.00 that seems pretty good.

Opinions?

Shaw will be ok for a hunting gun. I wouldn't expect consistant benchrest accuray from it but, you just never know, you may get a real shooter....it's a crap shoot with them.

A friend and I have been discussing this very same topic for the past couple weeks.

He purchased an unfired Savage takeoff barrel for $45. in 243. He is going to re-chamber in 6mm AI while I opted for the Same 1 in 9.25 twist Savage 243, I chose the smoker 6 X284 to re-chamber in because I have become a firm believer in short fat powder columns and did not want to go to the work of necking down a 270WSM case.

The high BC David Tubb sierra 115 DTAC at speeds similar to the 25-06 sounds like viable long range plan.
