I have an F prefix pre Accu trigger Model 12 in .223. Existing trigger is sort of ok but I'm sure there is something out there much better. Any first hand experience??

Check out the Rifle Basix triggers, they're pretty good for the money.

Been covered many times. Just depends on your intended use.

-Timney
-Rifle Basix SAV1
-Rifle Basix SAV2
-Savage target accutrigger and sear
*Available at Gunshack LLC*

The Timney and SAV1 are very similar. The SAV2 is better for more bench/target rifles since it will go down to 4-6oz if adjusted correctly.

If yours is just a standard 2.5lb accutrigger and your using it on a hunting rifle, you could also just buy the target accutrigger spring(available at Gunshack also) for $7 and get that trigger down to about 1.5lb or slightly less.

These are your most popular options. I have used all of these options and they all have their place and can satisfy your intended need.

Jard replaces all the savage trigger parts. All the other triggers are mods to the savage.

Your existing trigger can be improved upon by changing out the wire spring with a piece of piano wire (can't recall the size, but someone will chime in). Basically it's just a slightly thinner gauge wire that will net a lower pull weight.

For aftermarket triggers, a Timney is likely the cheapest option and they're good triggers, though can be a bit finicky to get dialed in. Just make sure to read the directions and make adjustments in the order they tell you for bet results. The Jard is a very nice trigger, but they are a little on the pricey side for most.

There's also the ELF trigger, although I'm not clear which Savage models it fits. All models? https://www.elftactical.com/ELF-SAVAGE-110-SE-Precision-Rifle-Trigger_p_48.html

I have a RifleBasix SAV1 in my model 12 6.5x47 Lapua and it's amazing!

To add to what Jim said, a .040" piano wire bent to the correct shape helps. Quite a few of the guys that owned older savage rifles like yours made shims to remove the slop between the trigger hanger and the trigger. Good luck.

If you don't want to make your own, I get them from here (https://www.triggershims.com/index.php). Nice guy to do business with, I provided the pic on his site for the 3-screw trigger. ;)

I run the Elf trigger and really like it. It is $149 directly from them and is in stock. I bought mine at Brownells and was on sale at the time. For the Savage rifles I would not hesitate to go this route again.
