I had a fellow bring in 2 rifles that he inherited for me to clean and inspect. They are both marked Ranger on the left hand side of the frame with no other markings other than the serial numbers. The serial numbers are 4xxx K and 2xxx K. Both have octagon barrels and are in decent shape. I know about the K in the serial and that they were made by Savage. I'm trying to figure out the time frame they were made and a aprox. value. Any other tidbits of relevance would be appreciated.

Savage 29A or 29B, manufactured for Montgomery Wards.

Savage 29A or 29B, manufactured for Montgomery Wards. Rangers were for Sears & Roebuck. With octagon barrels they are most likely Model 25 actions. Rangers with Model 29 actions are not very common, most have round barrels.
