View Full Version : Loaded some precision .308 today.
Loaded 200 rnds of precision .308. 150 gn fb over 43.5 gn of Varget in MEN berdan cases separated in 1 gn groups with TULA primers.
400 more segregated cases to go, but that's for another day. Charging and seating at a rate of three rpm with powder being weighed to +- .02 gn. Whatta Hobby!
I really like the handle on that COAX. Did you make that or order it?
Came from inline fabrication.com along with loading platform light and linkage that allows easier access for finger for putting a case in place. Love the entire machine. Yes the right angle handle with roller bearings is fantastic. Have loaded a few thousand cases so far and it is a joy over the straight handle. Whatta Hobby!

What do you mean by “berdan” cases?
What do you mean by “berdan” cases?
I am speaking of German surplus .308 cases that require berdan primers rather than boxer type which most folks are familiar with and use. Berdan is often referred to as non-reloadable which is actually not true. Some of the best brass I have used over the last half century of my loading career has been berdan primed. Most difficult thing today is finding the proper berdan primers. Whatta Hobby

Too much work. It’s hard enough trying to find regular primers.

what are you using to weigh charges within two one hundredths of a grain ??

+/- 0.02 grain?
Easy Peasy :)
That's +/- 4 counts with my EJ-54D2.
Is it needed? probably not.
I get about 10 to 15 fps per one tenth grain in my 22 Nosler/Nosgar.

Here's 0.2 steps (22 NOSGAR, heavier case lower charge than 22 Nosler). (right dot is a fluke :) ).

Will test 0.05 grain steps (22 Nosler, 85.5, SB 6.5) Wednesday with my Garmin.
31.75, 31.80, 31.85, 31.90, 31.95 grains. Going for a lower node than the 32+ load in the little video.
Tenth of a grain makes a big difference in smaller calibers.
Packing up for tomorrow's range trip.

RCBS MatchMaster in my photo above and these does the job very well to .02 gn. Whatta Hobby!

If you pay enough you can measure as precisely as you want.

RCBS list that as accurate to +/- .1 grain. How are you weighing to within .02 ?
.1 would be in standard mode. When in match mode it says .04 but does .02 just fine with proper care. Whatta Hobby!

I pretty much shun the high dollar reloading gear. It's no better. I dump a charge from
a 50 year old Uniflow, then with the same age RCBS trickler. I hand trickle to a .02 gr
resolution small Peregrine scale. I also still use an early model Ohaus 10/10 for my larger
cases.

I can't even recall who made those tools now.
I am going to guess the same tool I use. It's the RCBS Berdan de-capping tool. Works great once the user figures out how to use it and sets the pin depth correctly. Whatta Hobby!
