Yikes! I need some advice. I have a Model 112, 6.5x284 Norma, accutrigger, BVSS. Supposedly it was a limited edition rifle (savage didn't recognize it at first) but apperehently they were distributed by a Bill Hicks Guns?). So I purchased, from an individual online, a McMillian HTG stock that was inletted for the 112 long action w/accutrigger. The action fits great. But when I pulled my centerfeed magazine from the BVSS stock and put into the McMillan, there was alot of slop in the hidden box compartment of the stock, now the magazine wants to come up into the action/reciever.

Before I bought the stock I called McMillan and was told that the only thing I had to look out for was if the MCM stock was inletted for the detachable box magazine or hidden box mag. I asked if there was a difference between the staggerfeed and centerfeed magazine styles and was told "no". I called them this morning and was told that there is a difference between the SF and CF and my alternative was to buy a new stock.

It looks like I could possible shim and bed the magazine in place or I'm wondering if I purchased a Stagger feed mag that would fit the stock, would the rifle function? Any thoughts and help are greatly appreciated.

A SF mag won't fit a CF action since the action is not cut for the SF mag to snap into the action itself. You will either have to shim the CF mag box in, or get a CF stock. Search the forum here for threads on doing the CF to SF stock conversion. I can remember seeing several. There have been several different ways of doing it posted here. Maybe someone else will chime in with a link....

Boots, thanks! I did find some older suggestions in the forums and some great ideas.

Many thanks to tammons and Jim at Northland for taking some time to explain some things to me.

There is a light on the horizon and I think I'll be able to make it work.

I can't say enough good about the "Brotherhood of the Barrel Nut"! My problem has been solved with the help of everyones suggestions. I was able to buy some cheap ($1.29 for 6) plastic shims from Lowes. One of these was easily shaped with a dremmel to fit in front of the magazine to push it back into the rear of the magazine box. I carefully filed a groove in the rear saddle that supports the action, to fit the L-bracket that holds the centerfeed mag in position to the action. The filing took about 45min-1hr, I went super slow and fit check the bracket and action numerous times. When I had the groove done, the magazine fit tight, the action sandwiched the bracket into the stock and the rifle feeds flawlessly! Thanks again to all that helped!
