There seems to be a real lack of info in reloading books as well as other sources on loads for the 62 grn FMJ bullets.

I have AA2230, Varget, Tac, IMR 3031, IMR 4064, H4898, X-Terminator ans well as others.

I use Armscore, Prvi as well as SS109 bullets. The Prvi has a longer bearing area and the SS109's a lot longer bearing area, close to the 69 and 70 grn bullets, so they will produce higher pressure than the shorter bearing surface 62's, especially the SS109's.

I've got really good loads in the 55 FMJ and 69 Match, just not the 62's. I'm using a 1-9 barrel.

What are your best loads with these bullets. I'm shooting them in a 16.5" semi auto.

Thanks, John K

I had the 62gr SS109 loaded with 25gr of H335 with a CCI Small Rifle Magnum primer. Loaded just under what the mag box would allow... I don't have the COL handy.

Speer's Load manual # 14 has a whole page dedicated to the 62 Grain FMJ page 204....might be in your local library

Since this is Speer it is Part # 1050
Grains 62
BC .307
SD .177
COl as tested 2.255"

Best loads I have gotten :

AA2230 start=22.0 max=24.0
IMR 4064 start=23.5 max=25.5C
Reloader 15 start = 23.0 max= 25.0C

Varget is also a good choice for this weight I don't have data off hand.

I've found that Armscor bullets have wild swings in their overall length to tip and ogive, not conducive to good accuracy in an AR let alone a bolt gun. I've religated what Armscor 55 and 62 gr FMJs I have left to practice/blasting ammo. I'm now using Remington and Winchester FMJs.

Is there a particular reason for wanting to load 62 gr. fmjs? I have found the fmjs to be the least accurate bullets in my .223s. If cost is a determining factor, check the Midsouth branded 55 gr. Hornady soft points. $40.05 for 500, and they are suitable for hunting.

Midsouth's Varmint Nighmare Extreme 55 grain HP is a fine bullet in the AR and heavy barrel bolt gun. They're priced about $44/500 (or was the last time I ordered some).

I'll have to try the Midsouth bullets.
I have switched to the Prvi FMJ's, not premium, but much more consistant than the Armscore in both ojive and weight at about the same price.
I just had a lot of amrscore and found the same problem as you have with them. I use them for cheaper plinking loads and also for penitration if necessary, not hunting. I use premium bullets for hunting, but this is a semi auto SHTF weapon, not my bolt gun.

Thanks for the info. It helps to have a good starting point rather than just experimenting with a lot of different loads. Every gun shoots different, but these loads should be good starting points. I need to upgrade my reloading books, some are dated. Not much info on the manufacturers sites on the 62's either.
