I did a 20" wolverine (AR) , and have liked it quite a lot. Mine is a MDWS barrel, 1-11" twist i recall that right...sighted with 90's, it was getting a bit over 2650fps with shooters world blackout, and 100's were running about 2600.

If MGM was still agreeable with doing tapered contour barrels i'd have them build a 21" stainless 'tender, but they wont do tapers any more last time i inquired.

I can see the appeal of a rimmed version in a tender...now you got me thinkin...

I ran a .357 Max case all the way in to the Wolverine full length sizer and ended up with a nice looking case, neck length was a little longer than the Wolverine. I didn't bother to trim the case but just seated a bullet and it sat on my loading bench for a few years :distracted:

I didn't realize they would no longer cut a tapered barrel. A simple program change in a CNC lather takes literally seconds to accomplish and the difference in run (cycle) times would be minor. A quick look at the website shows they dropped the Barbed Wire fluting option also, I always thought that looked cool. They don't have an option for the 11 twist either.

No more custom chambers from MGM? I didn't realize that. So with Van Horn retiring, SSK selling out to new owners and MGM making these changes, that leaves Bullberry Legacy as the only true custom TC barrel maker out there.

Sad times indeed! I may talk to JGS about a rimmed Wolverine reamer, I'll have to call it something else though, the WLV is proprietary as far as I know. If I take the reamer plunge then I guess I'll have to talk to Troy also. It makes a guy feel old when his toys are declared obsolete!

call Andy at MGM the 277 wolverine with a rim cut will be easy enough, provide them with a few cases, they did rim cut my 221 FB 300 BO and my version of a 338 whisper ish all the barrels were made by them. I did drop that hint today when I talked to him, We need a rimmed Wolverine !!

I'll have to dig around and find it Sunny, I sold my reloading house last summer and my stuff is split up between house, garage and 2 storage units.

I thought I replied to you yesterday but I guess I didn't hit the post button hard enough !

Bob, that could be named the 270 Super Mag, along the same lines as the 256 Super Mag.

After my recent experience working with Troy at Bullberry and the quality of the product, any future custom barrels I order will be Bullberry’s.

I remember ordering one MGM barrel back in the day, sending them a 6.5 tapered blank that I had. The chamber was not nearly to the tolerances that Bullberry was providing and I never ordered any of their barrels again. I've had a couple of the SSK Hunters - plenty adequate but they're essentially factory barrels.

Troy is the only one I'd trust with a custom barrel at this point. The work is spot on and he goes the extra mile to make things absolutely right in any situation.

I'm seriously tempted, I might do a mock up and push the shoulder forward a touch to get the neck length short enough that it doesn't need trimming. Dang it! Anybody have a few Starline cases they would part with :der:

No need to apologize on my account. :D Thread drift can be entertaining and useful. If a story encourages interesting back-and-forth about related subjects. I'm good with it. :)
